SQL RTRIM FUNCTION
SQL RTRIM – The RTRIM function can remove all specified characters from the right side of the string in Oracle/PLSQL.
Syntax of the Oracle/PLSQL RTRIM function
RTRIM( string_d, [ trim_string_d ] )
Parameters or arguments
- string_d, which is cut off on the right side.
- trim_string_d- string to be removed from the right side of string1. If this parameter is not specified, the LTRIM function will remove all spaces from string1.
Note:
- RTRIM is responsible for returning a string value.
- also LTRIM and TRIM functions.
Application:
The RTRIM function is used in the following versions of Oracle/PLSQL: Oracle 8i-9i, Oracle 10g-11g and also in Oracle 12c.

SELECT RTRIM('234000', '0') FROM DUAL;

SELECT RTRIM('bcde234234', '234') FROM DUAL;
--Res: 'bcde'
SELECT RTRIM('234bcde234', '234') FROM DUAL;
--Res: '234bcde'
SELECT RTRIM('bcdexyxzyyyyy', 'xyz') FROM DUAL;
--Res: 'bcde'
SELECT RTRIM('bcde7483', '1234567890') FROM DUAL;
--Res: 'bcde'
The RTRIM function can be applied to remove the template, but not as shown in the following example.
SQL>SELECT RTRIM('bcdexyxxyzyyyxx', 'xyz')FROM DUAL;--Res: 'bcde'This actually removes individual occurrences of ‘x’, ‘y’, and ‘z’ unlike the “xyz” pattern.
The RTRIM function can also be used to remove all end numbers as shown in the following example.
